Mount Koya Samsara
Synophis:

A man meeting his ex-idol in a coffee shop on Mount Koya; A medicine seller from the Meiji Period coming across a strange woman after overcoming dangerous perils; A once famous songstress cursed by the spirit of a samurai…

3 stories, from the Heian, Meiji, and Reiwa periods form the play Mount Koya Samsara. Journey across time and space to witness the tale of these men and their “kanojo”. A JAV actress, a century old lady, a witch, cattle, insects… on the sacred ground that is Mount Koya, they partake in mundane everyday activities. Drinking coffee, bathing in onsen, eating carp, unwilling to let go of each other after death, nor able to let go.

“We are all demons, hiding under a layer of flesh and skin.”
The play is inspired and adapted from 3 works: the Noh play Sotoba Komachi, The Saint of Mount Koya by celebrated novelist Izumi Kyouka, and award winning Japanese monodrama Met my Ex-idol on Mount Koya by Mann Chan. Chan’s play
participated in the 2017 Gekiou Asian starring Anson Lam who won the award for best actor.
