Artist
LAM Pui-lim Anson
Anson Lam is an actor and Artistic Director of Yakusha Theatre.
He graduated from Nihon University, College of Art (Tokyo, Japan) and his major was Theatre Acting BA(1st Hon) in the School of Theatre. He was a resident actor of Tokyo Theatre Kaze, TPT (Theatre Project Tokyo) and Chung Ying Theatre Company (Hong Kong). He also acted in several TV programmes in Japan such as the regular in 'SMAP x SMAP' and he is the lead in the Japanese film My Lyrical Times, which won four awards in The 31st PIA Film Festival (Japan).
His important theatre works include: Shed skin (Hong Kong Repertory Theatre), Elephant man and Inspector calls (Chung Ying Theatre Company), The will to build (Theatre du Pif), The message and Checkmate (Theatre Space), White night (Harvest Garden), In the womb (Yakusha Theatre), White Room (Tatsumi Hijikata Research Unit), Macbeth (2017 Europe tour: Romania, Germany, Austria, Poland, Serbia) (Hong Kong re-run 2018) directed by Tang Shu Wing (Tang Shu Wing Theatre Studio), Met my ex-ido at Koya Mountain (2017) written and directed by Mann Chan (Japan: Gekiou - Asian 2017 *Anson won the best actor award), The Attic (Yakusha Theatre x Onandon Theatre Workshop), Opera Beauty and Sadness (C5 Projects Limited), 'The great little depression' (Drama Gallery) and Uragiri Gomen! (Theatre Space).
He established Yakusha Theatre in 2013, for his aim to create work and production through collaboration work between Japan and Hong Kong. The Japan classical play In the womb is the first theatre production of Yakusha Theatre in 2015 May. Anson is the producer, script translator (Japanese to Cantonese) and the lead of the production. He made the production a success in Cattle Depot theatre (HK) by 18 stages full house with starring Hong Kong top actor Poon Chan Leung, Louisa So Yuk Wa with Japanese director Maiko Tanaka and Music director Kazuki Kunihiro.
His translated Japanese plays include: University of Laughs (written by Mitani Koki), Miss Naoko (written by Mukoda Kuniko), My good husband (written by Nakatani Mayumi, Shed skin, Earthen Pipe (written by Tsukuda Norihiko), In the womb (written by Juuro Miyoshi) and The Attic (written by Yoji Sakate). He co-opereated with a numbers of Hong Kong and Japan theatre or Art companies and media including NHK Japan Broadcasting Corporation, New Nation Theatre Tokyo, Noda Map, Saitama Sainokuni theatre company (Japan), RTHK, Hong Kong Drama Federation of Societies. He was a lecturer in Japanese acting course of HKU SPACE and Japan theatre studies in The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
He has been trained in Japan by Butoh master Yukio Waguri and Moe Yamamto in recent years for his acting and performance development.
