Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe
"Some things will slowly get better, although not every time, but they will always get better.”

The story begins with the main character’s "list of brilliant things," started at age 7, accompanying her as she and her mother, who suffers from depression, rediscover curiosity and hope for life. As the protagonist grows, the list continually expands. The play delicately portrays mental health challenges, encouraging everyone to cherish the small but genuine happiness in everyday life.

What makes this play unique is that the audience is not just the audience but also part of the play. Through improvisational dialogue and mysterious tasks, the audience collaborates with the actor to enjoy an immersive role-playing experience. The actor shares life-related stories in a friendly, casual tone like a friend, openly discussing urban emotional illnesses such as anxiety, depression, and suicide in an open theater space, making heavy topics feel real and less lonely.

Since its premiere in 2013, Every Brilliant Thing has been nominated for The Evening Standard Theatre Awards (UK) and performed in over 80 locations worldwide. It is a beloved international solo play. London West End theaters resumed performances in August 2025, with over 100 acclaimed performances.
