CHAN Chu-hei
The Artistic Director of Theatre Horizon, a theatre director, curator, actor, and the winner of Hong Kong's Artist of the Year (Theatre) 2017, Chan graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1991 with a major in Performance. He then furthered his studies in the UK. He co-founded Theatre Ensemble in 1993, and founded Theatre Horizon in 2006 and Hong Kong People's Fringe Association in 2012.
 
Chan is a prolific theatre director. His works include the Century-old Dreams of a Fishing Harbour Trilogy, Lu-ting the Merman, Beyond the Horizon, the North-east Village editions of The Black and the Blue of a Man, The Garden Party and Antigone; The Square, Au bord de la vie, Rose and Rose, Winds of Change and French Kiss by Theatre Horizon; No News is True News, No Place Like Home, The Massage King, Lazy People Are Aways Busy, A Taste of Love and Horror, Pine Tree Under the Moon and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change! by Windmill Grass Theatre; Skylight by Gold Blue Limited, Red Chamber in the Concrete Forest and Blast by HK Arts Festival, Man of La Mancha by Festival de Artes de Macau, Beyond the Horizon and The Cherry Orchard by Teatro Horizonte Macau; The Blue Bird, The Black and the Blue of a Man by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Mila, the first opera he directed, was presented by Asia Society Hong Kong Center.
 
He was awarded Best Director twice at the Hong Kong Drama Awards and twice at the Hong Kong Theatre Libre. He was nominated for Best Director in several other works.
 
In 2012, he started the Hong Kong People's Fringe Festival. In recent years, he was the brainchild of several schemes and projects including the New Directors' Movement, the Asian Theatre Symbiosis Five-year Scheme, Outer West Theatrefest, Walking with Up-and-coming Directors Scheme, etc., to promote development in the local theatre scene.
 
Chan is also Chairman of Hong Kong People's Fringe Association, a CASH member and the initiator and the Chief Coordinator of Hong Kong People's Fringe Festival.
