About the program

Since 2019, the Professional Performing Arts Training and Development Programme for Golden Agers has been supported by the Link Together Initiatives. It provides systematic and sustained theatre training for individuals aged 55+, nurturing talented golden agers into professional performers and enabling new career pathways in the second half of life.
After over 500 hours of training, graduates engage in theatre, film, and the cultural sector; some become drama instructors, promoting theatre in the community and contributing to artistic continuity.
Through this programme, it is hoped that public and industry awareness of golden-age arts will be enhanced, recognising not only their positive impact on the well-being of older adults but also their contribution to society.
 
Programme Highlights

• Professional Training
  The programme provides systematic, professional drama training to enhance participants’ creativity, memory, and interpersonal collaboration skills. It enables participants to apply their theatrical skills and re-enter the industry in new capacities as performers or instructors.

• Performance
  Participants apply their training through performances in theatres and community venues, with overseas performance opportunities in the United Kingdom in 2023 and Singapore in 2024. To date, the programme has presented 86 performances to audiences of over 8,000.

• Community Drama Outreach
  Having experienced the positive impact of golden-age arts, participants are inspired to serve as instructors and give back to the community through drama outreach. In serving others, they affirm their own sense of value and purpose. To date, the programme has served 40 social welfare organizations and cooperated with Link to organise community drama workshop at shopping malls, reaching over 2,800 beneficiaries.

• Building a Golden-Age Arts Platform
  The programme organized Hong Kong’s first “Golden-Age Arts Symposium” and the “Hong Kong Creative Aging Arts Festival,” raising awareness of golden-age arts among the public and the arts sector.

• Supporting a Professional Golden-Age Theatre Company
  In 2022, Sage Players Limited was established as Hong Kong’s first theatre company operated by senior graduates of the programme. The company provides opportunities for participants to engage in company operations and stage productions, supporting their continued professional development.
